VÏKAE

music

VÏKAE is a Ukrainian-born, Aotearoa-based alt-pop artist making music that feels like a dream you don’t want to wake up from. Her sound lives in the shadows between dark pop, electronic and cinematic storytelling, music for dancing, crying, kissing strangers and remembering who you are whilst letting go of all your inhibitions; take your shoes off and stomp in a paddock and find magic on the dance-floor.

Her ongoing project, Doomsday Collective, is a long-form creative universe exploring love, grief, power, apocalypse and humour through interconnected songs, visuals and live shows. It is a project about turning chaos into beauty and beauty into something you can move to. Releases from the project have charted locally, earned editorial playlisting and gained strong support from radio and media across New Zealand and Eastern Europe.

Born in Ukraine and raised in Aotearoa, VÏKAE carries memory, language and survival through everything she makes. She often works across multiple languages as a way of honouring her roots while shaping her future. She holds an Honours degree in Music and has spent years developing her craft through collaboration, workshopping and working alongside respected figures in the New Zealand music community. She currently works as a facilitator for the Media Lab programme at Spectrum Care, with teaching music technologies to those with disabilities at the core of her mahi.

VÏKAE has performed extensively across Aotearoa at festivals, clubs and community spaces, building a reputation for shows that feel more like rituals than performances. Her live sets blend vocals and live-tronica elements into immersive emotional dancefloors that move between tenderness and chaos.

Her work has been featured by Rolling Stone and she has recently celebrated in a printed feature in NZ Musician magazine. She is currently under the mentorship of Georgia Lines, continuing to refine her voice, vision and live performance while building a world that is soft, feral, cinematic and entirely her own.
