Macrame Jewellery - Sustainable Gifting
kids-zone
Want to learn a new/ancient craft?
Capture a special stone or crystal in a macramé net, making your own wearable or gift piece of jewellery.
To be HUMAN is to CREATE. We have been making/crafting things we need in life since forever. These skills are rapidly being taken over by mass production, big corporations and technology. I aim to re-introduce craft as a way to save money, the planet and your very being with the meditative mindfulness crafting brings.
Claiming your inner creative is a journey you can start with me. I will instruct, guide and demonstrate the steps to take with simple cord and stone, first to create a net, to bind the stone and finally to make a necklace. If you'd like to re-remember the ancient craft of turning found objects into jewellery, come and join me!
Cord provided by gold coin donation, please bring your own stone/crystal.
Parental assistance required for participants younger than 12.
Hi! I’m Jessica, a crafty lady lucky to come from a family of crafters. As a child, things were made, repaired and designed in our home, workshop & machine shed as a way of life. Nothing was thrown away which could be mended. Op shops were the circulation of life. Adulthood has followed this path too. I am passionate about reducing clothing/fabric/anything going to landfills. Most of my creating is done with this topmost in mind. I am working in EVERY aspect of my life as best I can to minimise my impact on our environment.
I’ve fulfilled a life dream of owning a bead and jewellery store, making jewellery and teaching jewellery making, macramé and chain maile. What an epic 5 years that was.
Since then I have taught a range of craft classes; jewellery, crochet, sewing and felting. Sold my wares at markets and festivals, made my family’s clothes and shoes, and generally lived a very crafty life! Currently I run a fortnightly Craft Club for our local homeschool group, teaching everything from felting to eco-dying. So fun!
My 8 year old son and I now live between Papamoa where we share-house with my inspiring sister-in-law and her two kids (cousins yay!) and Karangahake Gorge on family land, in a home we created using B-train truck trailers. We live close to nature, learn through the living of life and passions (unschool) and go on as many adventures as possible.
I love to dance (dance is my medicine), I love to grow food (organic using our own humanure compost), I love to live in community (the way our ancestors have), I love to make things (all the things!), I love to run (best mental health strategy for me), I love to sauna (especially with ocean swimming included)….and I love to go to festivals….where dance, community and creativity all magically combine!
