Porowhita Round Singing
Porowhita - round singing of Māori proverbs
culture
Unite and sing simple, beautiful songs in equal parts Te Reo and English with enchanting melodies for community round singing - composed so that groups learn quickly then start the song at different times to create beautiful harmony with interweaving melodies, rhythms and languages. Reweave worlds, re-anchor to timeless truths, grounding our heritages as manuhiri and tangata whenua, coming back to breath, body and sound together, listening deeply to self, other and world as we contribute our voices, our part in the unfolding song. Composer and facilitator Sean O'Connor is of Ngati Porou, Scottish and Irish descent, uniting his musical and cultural heritage from both sides. A lifelong musician and songwriter, he is the composer of the "Porowhita" song collection - waiata whakatauki, Māori proverbs in Te Reo and English.
